Charlie Conquergood was a friend to all and a staunch supporter of the Toronto Triumph Club and British Car Day. Charlie passed away on March 9, 2009 from cancer.\u00a0 He was always there to help and happy to do so. He never complained and most of all was well known and loved by many people throughout our hobby. Over the years he touched the hearts \u2013 and cars \u2013 of many.<\/p>

Charlie took on many roles within the TTC including a term as President. He was instrumental in developing and computerising the master plan for the lay out of the various marques and models and vendor stalls at British Car Day and for many years would personally be involved in the laying out of the field on the Saturday morning before BCD.<\/p>

Each year, his friends at the Toronto Triumph Club award a special commemorative plaque in recognition of Charlie\u2019s passing and his unreserved devotion to his wife Sandy, his family and faithful Triumph Spitfire \u2018Gumby\u2019.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The recipient of the award is decided by the Executive Committee of the TTC and their decision is based on members who have demonstrated a similar devotion and dedication to the Club and as a reflection of the life values and spirit of friendship, which Charlie Conquergood always shared with us.<\/p>

At the 39th British Car Day, the Charlie Conquergood Award was presented to long-time member Tony Fox who has demonstrated the same, generous, disposition and commitment to the hobby that Charlie demonstrated. His British car roots are deep:<\/p>

  • He was born in the UK and completed his engineering apprenticeship with the Austin Motor Company, which later became British Motor Corp (BMC)<\/span><\/li>
  • Upon immigrating in 1969 he joined Massey Ferguson, where he was involved with most aspects of engineering.<\/span><\/li>
  • His interest in the Triumph Stag started in 1991 when he purchased his first car in Texas.\u00a0<\/span>This was quickly followed by a second car, which he drove back from California and continues to own to this day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>A succession of many other Stags came and went.\u00a0<\/li>
  • His interest in British cars extends to his membership and executive roles in several car clubs including the British Saloon Car Club of Canada, the Triumph Stag Club of the Americas and he is the Stag coordinator for the Toronto Triumph Club.\u00a0<\/li>
  • Oh, by the way, he also co-authored a book called <\/span>Triumph Stag: The Essential\u00a0<\/strong>Buyer’s Guide <\/strong>in 2019! (available now from Amazon)<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
